Rules and Conditions of Entry

 

The Kauri Museum Northland Photography Awards is an online photography competition initiated and managed by the CEO of The Kauri Museum, Matakohe.   There are two categories for school students and an Open category.  Entries open on Monday 11 June 2018 and close at 5.00pm Monday 9 July 2018.  All entries will be judged by a panel of two judges who will select finalists from each of the three competition categories. 

Running alongside the online competition will be The Tudor Collins Award for People’s Choice.  This award will be determined by public vote, either online or at The Kauri Museum. 

Three prizes will be awarded in each category, with one prize for the People’s Choice winner and an award to the school with the highest number of student entries.

All entrants must reside in the Northland region and the area extending as far south as Warkworth.  Warkworth residents include those living within the township and/or covered by Warkworth rural mail delivery.

By entering this Competition, entrants are deemed to have read, understood and accepted the following rules and conditions:

COMPETITION

1.  The Competition is for the best photograph in each category. Finalists will be selected from each category at the judge’s discretion. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and highly commended.  The theme for the competition, across all categories is, ‘Kauri Connections’  - an exploration of how these mighty trees influence our way of life. 

2.   Categories are:

     A.   Junior school student (years 1 – 8)

     B.   Senior school student (years 9 – 13)

     C.   Open (any age, including school students)

 

3.   Entry fees are:

      A.   Primary school student (years 1 – 8)   

First entry $10.00    each additional entry  $5.00   to a maximum of three (3) entries

 

      B.   Secondary school student (years 9 – 13)

            First entry $10.00    each additional entry  $5.00   to a maximum of three (3) entries

 

      C.   Open

            First entry $15.00    each additional entry  $10.00  to a maximum of three (3) entries

 

4.   To enter, entrants must upload their entries, complete the online entry form and pay the required fee. 

5.   The entry must show a clear connection to the word ‘kauri’ and the kauri theme and photographic techniques must form a substantial part of the work.

6.  For online upload, the entry must be a minimum size of 2MB and no larger than 5MB, to be submitted in jpg format.  

7.   Entrants agree to the display of their entry on The Kauri Museum’s website for public viewing and online voting in support of the Tudor Collins People’s Choice Award.

8.   Entrants agree to the display of their entry in slideshow format at The Kauri Museum for public viewing and to allow voting in support of the Tudor Collins People’s Choice Award.

9.   This is a curated online competition/exhibition.  All entries will not necessarily be accepted or displayed.

10.  Entries are limited to works produced within the last two (2) years and must not have been a finalist is any previous photographic or art competition.

11.  Copyright of any image entered in this competition remains with the entrant but, by entering the competition, the entrant grants permission to The Kauri Museum to use any work entered for the purposes of publicity and promotion of the competition.

12.  Every entrant warrants that submitted pictures do not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the picture(s) submitted. The Kauri Museum reserves the right to remove any picture(s) and disqualify the respective entrant immediately if it has reason to believe that publication of the picture would be in breach of a third party's copyright or any other right or claim.

13.  By entering the Competition, entrants warrant that all information submitted by them is true, current and complete.

14.  The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

FINALISTS

15.  Finalists will be chosen by the Judges from each of the three categories.  The finalists will be notified by The Kauri Museum of the Judges’ decision no later than Monday 16 July 2018.

16.  By entering the competition, the entrant agrees that if they are chosen as one of the finalists, then these additional rules will apply:

(i)            finalists will have fourteen (14) days to deliver to their entry to The Kauri Museum in display-ready format.  The work to be at The Kauri Museum no later than 5pm Monday 30 July

(ii)           the printed component of any entry may be of any dimensions up to a maximum paper size of A1  (594mm X 841mm)

(iii)          finalists may deliver their entries to The Kauri Museum already framed or mounted to their own criteria

(iv)          the artworks will be installed and on display from Friday 10 August and exhibited at The Kauri Museum until Sunday 7 October 2018.

17.  Finalists are responsible for any insurance cover of their artworks while in transit. The Kauri Museum will take all care but accept no responsibility for any damage to the work while it is in the museum’s custody.

 

18.  Finalists are responsible for arranging collection or return of their work at the conclusion of the exhibition.  This may be in person or by the provision of appropriate courier tickets to cover the cost of return to the address provided on the entry form.  The Kauri Museum will pack any artwork for return by courier to the same high standards it applies to its international mail.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FINALISTS

19.  Finalists may offer their work for sale while it is on display at The Kauri Museum. However, the work may not be removed from display until the close of the exhibition.

20.  Finalists will also be offered the opportunity to offer for sale a limited number edition of their work [up to a maximum of five (5) prints] while the original is on display at The Kauri Museum.

21.  All work, both original and further prints, will be sold through The Kauri Museum’s retail arm.  Therefore the standard commission rate of 331/3% will apply to any sale.      

PRIVACY

22.  The information provided on The Kauri Museum’s online entry form will be used to contact the winner.

23.  All winners consent to participate and co-operate, as required by The Kauri Museum, in all promotional activities relating to the competition.

24.  All information provided by the entrants will be collected, used, stored, disclosed and corrected in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993.

EXCLUSIONS

The following persons are not eligible to win any prize:

       (i)  Anyone not resident in the area covered by the competition rules at the time of submitting      an entry to the competition. 

       (ii) Any staff member of The Kauri Museum and their immediate family members.

25. The Kauri Museum reserves the right to exclude any entrant from participating in the competition at its sole discretion. It also reserves the right to refuse to award a prize to an entrant who is in breach of these Rules and Conditions, gains an unfair advantage in participating in the competition or wins a prize by using fraudulent means.

26. The Kauri Museum will not be liable for any claims for loss, damage or injury whatsoever or for any physical or mental injury suffered by the winner(s) as a result of or in connection with the competition or due to any prizes won in the competition.
